Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Singapore are three Southeast Asian destinations featured on Tripadvisor’s list of world’s 25 best solo travel spots, offering travelers freedom to explore at their own pace.
Bangkok, known for its golden temples and luxury shopping malls, ranked fourth on the list.
The Thai capital was crowned the world’s top tourism city in 2024, welcoming a record-breaking 32.4 million visitors.
Chiang Mai, Thailand’s largest city in the north, secured eighth place.
The city is famous for the Yi Peng Festival, also known as the Sky Lantern Festival, which lights up the night sky with floating lanterns.
Tripadvisor recommended exploring the vibrant Night Bazaar, visiting the National Museum and Botanic Garden to immerse in local culture, and enjoying the delicate fragrance of Thai orchids.
“In the city’s center, the remains of ancient walls embrace over 30 temples. Limber travelers can climb 300 stairs to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, an ornate Buddhist temple nestled in the hills,” Tripadvisor added.
Singapore, celebrated for its low crime rate and strict laws, came in 14th.
“The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, while the observation deck at Sands SkyPark provides breathtaking views that make you feel like you’re high above the clouds,” Tripadvisor wrote.
South Korea’s Seoul topped the list as the world’s best solo travel destination.
The 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards were based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews on Tripadvisor globally, collected between Oct. 1, 2023, and Sept. 30, 2024. These awards recognize destinations with the highest ratings, celebrating places that have captured the hearts of travelers around the world.
